Buddhism: formation and development

The Tu Cong Phap Seal (aka Dharmachakra) granted by Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha to TCP cultivator. This is the only correct Seal as instructed by the Buddha himself.

This article is the teaching of Prof. Dich – Van Van Quang Buddha about Buddhism and its development. Some information would be different with those provided in other scriptures and historical writings on Buddhism popular today. These are, however, the direct insights, instructions and teachings of the Upper Buddhas from the high level in the Universe. These information are their true and original teachings on Buddhism.

Buddhism is the doctrine about the Existence of Universe and the guiding principle that guides mankind in the whole Universe to understand the cultivation of body and mind in many incarnations to become Truth-Goodness-Forbearance. Buddhism helps mankind to be fully aware of the Existence of Universe, hence, firmly believe in cultivation to progress continuously to the high levels of the invisible subtle space of the Universe. Buddhism explains that the Existence of Universe is objective regardless of man’s thought. Buddhism affects mankind on all five man-bearing planets in the Universe, not just on this Earth. You should not understand: “According to Buddhism, the Universe is like this or like that…”, but should comprehend that: “Buddhism teaches mankind to understand the Existence of Universe is like this …”. It means that Buddhism only explains the Existence of Universe as it is, but does not create a theory on the Existence of Universe.

Buddhism was born at the time when BIROL Buddha (read more about BIROL Buddha here) was the leader of Standing Three Jewels (now the Highest Universal Council – FOGHY)), more than 5,000 years ago. At that time, it had not been a religion yet. Until Amitabha presided over the Standing Three Jewels, nearly 3,000 years ago, Buddhism was formed as a religion, called Buddhism, but it was only the first step. By the time Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha was the leader of the Standing Three Jewels, more than 2130 years before 2018, Buddhism was then formed as an orthodox religion. Then Sutras being the teachings of the Buddhas were written and have been being used until today. Buddhism adores the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Buddhism points out to mankind that Reincarnation is an objective law of existence, and life goes through the stages of birth, aging, illness and death.

Buddhism is one of the three largest global religions on Earth (along with Christianity and Islam). Buddhism was formed in India about over 3,000 years ago initiated by Amitabha, then leader of the Standing Three Jewels. When Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha presided over the Standing Three Jewels, he brought Buddhism into a full religion. He directly taught this religion for nearly 40 years when he was alive after cultivating into Buddha, leaving mankind with a huge treasure of philosophy with a set of sutras recorded by his disciples.

Development stages of Buddhism

According to the instruction of Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha, Buddhism has 4 development stages, including:

1). The early stage, the formation of Buddhism, from the period Amitabha presided over the Standing Three Jewels (4th century BCE) to more than 2130 years ago (2nd century BCE) which was the time when the Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha presided over the Standing Three Jewels. It was Him who taught the disciples about this religion. When the Buddha died, the disciples continued to spread this religion.

2). The splitting stage: began to differentiate into different schools. (from the 3rd century BCE, about 2,200 years ago).

3). The Stage of appearance and development of the Mahayana school. (From the 1st century, in the 50s).

4). The Stage of the appearance of Esoteric Buddhism, also known as Tibetan or Vajrayana Buddhism. (From the 7th century, around the years after 600).

In general, Buddhism has two periods of development called Hinayana Buddhism, at first and Mahayana Buddhism, later on. Both are derived from the theory of Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha.

Hinayana Buddhism (small vehicle) is only the first stage of Buddhism development, since before Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha, and was most prevalent after the Buddha died. Hinayana Buddhism attaches great importance to the ascetic practice in the mountain cave or temple, i.e. the cultivators must live the life of a monk, renouncing family, separating from ordinary life. In short, Hinayana Buddhism means a few people cultivating in pagodas.

Mahayana Buddhism (great vehicle) is the term to call a major school of Buddhism, popular from the 1st century, wide spread from India to China and some Southeast Asian countries. Mahayana does not so much emphasize to be monastic, but that Buddhists cultivating at home can also attain enlightenment thanks to the blessing and support of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. This is the theoretical point of Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha when he was still alive. Mahayana believes that cultivating Buddhism is not only to liberate from reincarnation (Samsara), but higher aim is to remain dwelling at the high level scales of the Universe. At the same time, it says that every sentient being has Buddha nature, and must find a way to develop it. To realize this matter is very important on the path of Buddhism practice. Thanks to the very feasible concept of Mahayana, this school can be maintained and developed until today. Mahayana Buddhism started from India, spread through Tibet, China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. In short, Mahayana Buddhism means all people cultivate at home. Northern Asian Buddhist School does not show to our people this simple matter. Pagoda cultivation will always be less, and will become lesser and lesser. Cultivation at home will become more and more wide-spread. You should find a teacher to learn Dao to soon escalate to the higher levels of the Universe. Each of your incarnating life in the physical space only has true value when you direct your mind to enjoy Dao.

During the period of the Mahayana Buddhism, Buddhism boomed into many different schools, though from the same Buddhism but competing with each other. Currently there exist four major schools, namely Pure Land school, Zen sect, Esoteric school, and Mahayana Buddhism (mentioned above).

Pure Land School

Pure Land group directs the cultivator to sit with quiet mind and recite Amitabha’s name until reaching one-mindedness, prays for salvation so that he could be brought into the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss when died. Pure Land school made a mistake that it considers coming to the ultimate bliss realm too easy, just need one-minded cultivation following Amitabha Buddha, reciting his name enough times will be fruitful. Now Amitabha is no longer a Buddha, it shows that this matter is even more unrealistic. Cultivation also depends on the good and evil of many continuous incarnations. It is not possible to simply die and be welcomed into the Buddha realm. An Astral man is being imprisoned in the Prison level scale, forced to return to the physical space in this incarnation to correct the mistake, how can he cultivate in only one lifetime to elevate to Buddha’s realm? On the other hand, Pure Land only meditates reciting Buddha’s name, does not cultivate Cong, so it is impossible to increase Cong Power, but without increasing Cong Power, it is not possible to reach the upper level of the Buddha realm. That is the absurdity of this school.

The fundamental mistake of Pure Land is not to guide practitioners to cultivate mind and practice Cong, but only hope to one-mindedly recite the Buddha’s name in order for the Buddha to bring to the higher levels of the Universe. This is never achievable. This is also a form of superstition in Buddhism by North Asian Buddhist school to demagogue people.

Zen sect of Buddhism

Zen sect advocates meditating in order to attain deep concentration (Samadhi), always thinking of Shakyamuni Buddha in order to be brought to Saha by him. The only difference between Pure Land and Zen school, is one side looks for the Western Pure Land of Amitabha, and one side looks for the Saha of Shakyamuni. Zen sect also made the mistake of not cultivating mind and practicing Cong, same as of the Pure Land one mentioned above, so it cannot succeed as expected. This is wrong versus the teaching of Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha.

Esoteric Buddhism

It is a school of Buddhism that appeared in India and was spread by some Indian missionaries originated from Buddhism into Tibet in the 8th century, by the end of the Mahayana Buddhism. Transmission method of Esoteric school is esoteric, not as widely written as Buddhism Sutras, but by word-of-mouth from generation to generation. Esoteric School has many different names such as: Mantrayāna, Tantrayāna, Tantric Buddhism, Vajrayāna etc. Whatever the name, the essence is still secret. These are the Tantras, (secret words, also known as the Sutra or the Mantra), imparting by the way of mind-to-mind transmission. Esoteric school advocates cultivation is to save sentient beings, not to liberate oneself. Esoteric guideline is “compassionate saving”. This is not possible in reality. Practitioners cannot just save others without liberating themselves. Esoteric school is different from other ones by taking “Mantra” as a means of practice.

Esoteric Buddhism has a number of Sutras, but is used exclusively for esoteric practitioners, so it is not widespread. In Vietnam, there are no Esoteric Sutras translated into Vietnamese, so the number of esoteric practitioners is very small. During the Ly Dynasty, there were Dharma Masters Tu Dao Hanh and Nguyen Minh Thong propagated this school.

Why has to be secretly imparted? Sincere mind cultivation should be wide spread for everyone to echo. So far Buddhism has always done so. Secret is either selfish, or superstitious to demagogue people.

Hinduism is a large religion of India, with nearly ten different sects, but all of them share the point of view of admitting the theory of reincarnation: seeing birth, aging, illness and death is the general law of motion of the Universe. At the same time, they worship God idols, the revered Deities. There are millions of revered Deities in India. Hinduism originated from Brahmanism, which developed until the first century then turned into Hinduism. There are mainly two major schools: Vishnu and Civa (Siva), while nurturing many philosophical sects among which best known are two sects: Vedanta and Yoga.

Hinduism still retains the main features of Brahmanism, worshiping Brahma (the God of Creation), Civa who is the God of Destruction, Vishnu who is the God of Preservation. These three gods are unified together to be called the Trimurti

Buddhism in the Degenerate period

What is the Degenerate period?

That is the period when Buddhism was distorted and wronged by people, is no longer the Right Dharma of the Highest Revered Buddha.

When alive on Earth, Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha had mentioned this problem. He said “The Right Dharma is to be maintained for five hundred years”. That means his teachings at that time would be kept and maintained for about five hundred years. After that, they will be distorted by people, is no longer the Right Dharma. That was the Buddha’s warning for people to be vigilant in the period of Dharma decline. What a profound insight of the Buddha. Until today’s date, it has been nearly five times of that five hundred years. Truly, reading Buddhist scriptures today, no one can understand. That is because for nearly 2,200 years, the Buddhist scriptures have been re-edited tens of thousands of times when they are reprinted. At those times, the editors themselves deduced, added or removed, cut the sentences, adjusted the meaning according to their interpretation, resulting in the Buddhist scriptures today, according to Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha, are very different to those taught from the time the Buddha was alive. And translation of Buddhist scriptures from one language to another has greatly distorted them. Some of other religious sects have taken advantage of this situation and propagate that: Buddhism in the Dharma degenerate period cannot help cultivators to succeed anymore, only their sects can help. These are false propaganda, its nature is selfish. The reality shows that cultivating Buddhism today still achieves very high success.

The Dharma degenerate period is also reflected in the deterioration and degeneration of monastic practitioners. First of all, that is showed in the refusal to study the Dharma seriously, having little effort to learn to understand the Existence of Universe, the Laws of Troi, the Astral men and the Rough men, etc. Today many monks have a very low level of knowledge about the Universe, men, and Dharma; have very little knowledge about the one-minded cultivation of Buddhism, about Troism, Buddhism, Emperorism, about the Laws of Troi, the existence of spaces in the Universe, the co-existence of two kinds of men, the body and Astral of a man, about the Spirit Ratio, about man’s obligation to cultivate, etc. They don’t even understand what is mind cultivation and Cong practice!? The result is they cultivate Buddhism without one-mindedly cultivating Buddhism. Many monks even hold Hau Dong rites in Motherism temple within the pagoda yard. They even hold superstitious bad-luck relieving rite; run after the life of mediocre materialism; care less about worshiping Buddha but more about praying for people to get money. Then, even take the offering money in pagoda for family use, use the pagoda money to spend on own lavish stuff. Some Buddhist Associations in some countries also set their own rules, divided the practitioners into positions, applied seniority scheme for promotion, envying and competing with each other etc. Because of the lack of understanding of Dao, of the Universe and men the practitioners are also lack the capability to teach Dharma that results in lack of teaching of Dharma for people. So faith in Buddhism is reduced, causing doubt that it is just superstition and legend. These are the manifestations of the Dharma degenerate period in Buddhism.

Can cultivation be successful in the Dharma degenerate period?

The fact has shown that in the current period, after more than 2,130 years from the day Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha leading the Standing Three Jewels, if keeping sincere one-minded cultivation of Buddhism, cultivating mind and practicing Cong, cultivation can progress very quickly. In some countries, the Buddhist Association still holds the precepts very seriously in Buddhism cultivation that results in effective cultivation. For Buddhist scriptures, it is important to follow the Buddha’s words, not to read the scriptures every day. It is difficult to understand the current scriptures due to distortion. Reading daily without any understanding, what effect does it have? So the current practice is mainly to follow the teachings of the Buddha. One of the most effective methods of cultivation is Tu Cong Phap (read more about Tu Cong Phap here).

Accordingly to Prof. Dich – Upper Buddha Van Van Quang HUGO HAMA, in his Tu Cong Phap congregation, as of June 2019, among around 600 of his disciples:

  • 7 have attained Thuong Phat (High Buddha) level, of them 6 have attainted Dao, i.e. High Buddha level 3
  • 17 have attained Phat (Buddha, without Buddha name) level
  • 54 have attained La Han (Arhat) level
  • Dozens of them have attained Kim Cuong Bo Tat (Colossus Bodhisattva) and hundreds of them have attained Cao Tang Bo Tat (High Virtue Bonze Bodhisattva), the rest have attained at least Tien Than (Divinity).

All of these people are still living on Earth and will continue to progress in the future. The Buddha said this is a success never been seen in the history of Buddhism cultivation in the entire Universe. This success, no doubt, is contributed by 2 major factors: first, this is the only congregation in the history of mankind in the entire Universe led and taught by an Upper Buddha who is still living in the physical space (Shakyamuni LANTIG Buddha attained High Buddha level 4 when he died). The method of practice and the knowledge he taught to the disciples are very effective, based on the experiences and teachings of all previous Upper Buddhas. Second, they are closely blessed and supported by Troi, the Upper Buddhas and the Emperors. These factors assure the success for any loyal and one-minded practitioner. With hard work, dedication and strong faith in Troi, Upper Buddhas and Emperors, they are bound to enlightenment.
